Florence - Plenty of Sculptures ⛲

It's been nice doing short coach trips between the Italian cities, as Bologna to Florence only took 1.5 hrs it felt like no time at all. We had time to walk up Piazzale Michelangelo on the first evening which had lovely views across city, it was very busy up there though. There were basketball and volleyball games in motion, and fair play in the heat! We watched for a while and then slowly strolled back past numerous fountains, it was a very pleasant evening.

We had a good explore of the city on the next day, which has got a lot to see. There are lots of museums, most of which you have to pay for and many that happen to be closed on Monday (the day we were there). However, we found there is plenty to see without spending a Euro. If you like statues/scultptures then Florence is the place for you, my favourite is Perseus with the head of Medusa. David is obviously very popular, but he's is a museum which is expensive and was closed, however there is a replica in Piazza della Signoria, the location the original was before it got moved inside.

Other highlights include the Ponte Veccchio, a medieval stone bridge which has loads of jewellery shops on it, and the Cathedral which is just huge! We'd seen it the evening before from far away but it seemed even bigger close up.

We'd not long finished our packed lunch when we had our first thunderstorm of the trip, they kept being forecast but never appearing but this one did, don't worry our waterproofs were with us! While exploring we'd found a big food market which we returned to for tea later in the day, we had pizza and pasta because why not when you're in Italy. We love places like this for food, there is loads of choice and great hustle and bustle atmosphere.

The next day we jumped on a train to Pisa, to obviously get the photos you have to get when in Pisa. It's harder than it looks to get everything lined up properly, as you can probably tell as it just looks like Matt is stomping on those poor people. We continued from there to a beach at Tirrenia to lie in the sun and swim in the sea, the beach was very busy but the water was gorgeous 😍

We're now travelling on! We've just got a on train heading towards Ancona where we're get on a ferry overnight to arrive in Split tomorrow morning. Goodbye Italy and hello (again) to Croatia!

Lots of love,
Lisa and Matt 💕
