Da Nang - The sea meets the city 🌊

We had a sleeper train to Da Nang so 12 hours in a 4 berth cabin with 2 Vietnamese strangers. It went OK, we both got some sleep but it's hard to tell how much. Here's Matt looking pretty snug!

Our first full day in Da Nang we jumped on a bus to the Marble mountains, just south of the city. Altogether its 5 limestone peaks which you can go up to see caves and temples. It was really nice up there with great views and time to cool down in the caves.

After, we headed back into the city and walked along the river to Downtown Da Nang, a sort of small theme park place. We wanted to do the big wheel once it had gone dark but for not much more money you could get an all inclusive ticket for the other rides, so we went on the roller coasters and the pirate ship too. The view from the top of the wheel was lovely at night.

We also spent plenty of time at the beach during our time in Da Nang. I spent a long time one day watching a group of fishermen pull these huge nets into the shore, there was some impressive team work going on. The beach would get really busy at about 5ish, it appeared lots of people came for a swim after work and exercised on the beach. We stayed into the evening one night, as it's constantly so warm and even the thunder and lightning over head didn't send the locals home!

Over the other side of the Han river we visited the Fine Arts Museum, it's cheap to enter and gets you out of the heat of the day for a while, and we enjoyed absorbing some culture. We also enjoyed walking along the river, both at day and night, but the skyline all lit up does have something special about it. We also saw the famous dragon bridge at night which is an impressive sight. At the weekends it breaths fire and water at certain times in the evening but unfortunately we were only in Da Nang during the week.

Today we had our shortest hop so far, only about 45 mins on the local bus down to Hoi An. This is a change of plan due to Typhoon Yagi which hit further north very recently, which we've been watching the movement of since being in Vietnam. We were meant to be going to Cat Ba Island but after being in contact with the hostel they advised we don't due to the devastation that the storm has caused. A change of our plans is nothing compared to what some people are currently going through.

Lots of love,
Lisa and Matt 💕
