Prague - Buildings, Beers, and Bobsleighs

We love Prague, hence why we decided to start here. I'm writing this just as we depart the main bus station on our first Flixbus of the trip, something which I'm surprisingly looking forward to! 

Our time in Prague saw us explore the city's parks and gardens all of which are surrounded by the most spectacular buildings, at every turn another one appears. We spotted Red Squrriels in Petล™รญn Park and Coypus (or Nutria) on Park Legiรญ, which we initially mistook for beavers and seem to be becoming a problem in the city. We spent a lot of time on or alongside the river which showcases many of its grand buildings and if Matt and I can get on some sort of boat we will do, this time we chose a pedalo.



One of our highlights would definitely be the Letnรก Lookout Beer Garden, which we went to both days as the weather was being so good to us. It gives wonderful views of the city and the river, serves beer, and just had the most relaxed chilled out atmosphere going which we needed after doing about 30000 steps. There is obviously endless great locations to drink beer in Prague, we sampled a few, my favourite being any which we could sit in the sunshine ๐ŸŒž 


On our second day we got the metro out of the city to a bobsleigh track, I found this by Google-ing 'fun things to do in Prague', and it was hilarious. Bobovka Prosek has a 780m track which you sit on a small black tray on wheels then fly round its bends. We had five goes each, two of which we went together which just made us go faster due to the extra weight! You then got to relax as they pulled you, and your tray, back up the hill to start again. 

On our final afternoon we had more riverside sunshine drinks before our pedalo to give our legs a final work-out before bed. We're now on our way to Vienna so the next post will be from there. We've been able to live a bit more frivolous in Prague due to a generous leaving gift, so from here the budgeting begins!

Arriving in Labaun Bajo was interesting, especially after being on Bali and Lombok. Bali is majorly for tourists and you feel that constantly, Lombok felt a step behind where there were still locals shouting "taxi" at you but no where near as many. Labaun Bajo felt a step behind again, but with all the Komodo trips based from there you get the sense the city is at the beginning of a tourism boom, it would definitely be interesting to visit in 10 years time to see how much its changed.  We had a day to use before our boat trip so we headed out to the Gua Batu Cermin, aka Mirror Stone Cave. It's not far from the centre of Labaun Bajo and gets its name from the way the sunlight reflects around the cave walls. We were not there at right time to see this, but they're still pretty cool with bats, snakes, and whip scorpions to spot. Sarajevo - There's too much to say ๐Ÿ’™

Sarajevo has been such a wonderful city to spend time in and one, I'm ashamed to say, I knew nothing about. Because of this we actually booked ourselves on to a walking tour instead of me using one I've found online trying to tell Matt facts as we walked. Our brilliant guide Muhamed took us around the city showing us the highlights whilst sharing information on the three main events that put Sarajevo in the media spotlight - the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand (1914), the 1984 Winter Olympics, and the Seige of Sarajevo (1992-96). Let's start in the middle! On our first day we headed up Trebevic, the mountain to the south of Sarajevo, offering spectacular views of the city and the mountains that surround it. We did cheat and get the cable car up, mainly to save time as the reason we wanted to go up was to walk back down the abandoned bobsleigh track from the 1984 winter Olympics. Singapore - The city that never sleeps? ๐ŸŒƒ

We got on our coach in Kuala Lumpur at 12 midday, we got off the coach in Singapore at about 10pm, it was a long ride! It did involve 3 stops and we had to get off for customs etc. which all went very smoothly but we were happy to arrive in Singapore. We started the first day by heading to Chinatown and having a good look around the markets, Matt finally bought a new cap so all set for the sunshine again. There was lots of lovey street art all around which was very impressive. We then headed to the Singapore City Gallery, free to enter, it's filled with exhibits about how Singapore developed and how it plans to sustain itself in the future. It was very interesting, we spent a while there on a interactive thing where you could build your own city, trying to get the balance right between residential and commercial buildings and green space and attractions.
