Ohhhhh Vienna 🎢

I found it hard to warm to Vienna because of how much we enjoyed Prague, however I did fall for its grandour and charm. We spent a lot of time laying on the grass in its parks soaking up the sunshine but then very quickly moving to the shade! I also love public transport in cities like this, we bought a 72hr ticket which meant we could hop on and off any metro, tram, or bus whenever we wanted and it all just runs so quick and smooth I don't think we ever waited more than 5 minutes. I could happily ride around on underground's all day long.

Our ticket came in useful as we headed out to SchΓΆnbrunn Palace for the day, once the summer residence of Austria’s imperial family, its now a huge tourist attraction and tourists we are. Entrance to the Palace will cost you, and there's add ons for various areas, but you can visit the huge gardens with its fountains, rose gardens, and Gloriette for free and we basically spent the whole day there. The only thing we did pay for was the maze and labrynth for €5. We of course raced in the maze, starting at different entrances and timing ourselves to the exit. I won't say who won, but below is a picture of Matt looking lost πŸ™‚

Our second day we went to the Butterfly House (Schmetterlinghaus) which was wonderful although extremely hot. The butterflies loved Matts purple top having many land on him and it was very nice watching them all fluttering about. I believe the one on Matt on the photo below to be a Common Morpho (Morpho helenor) found in the Central Americas.

We also visited the Natural History Museum which is in a very grand building and had such a huge amount on show but we didn't find it as interactive as we'd hoped. It did have a total of 3 stuffed cats though (not including big cats), my favourite I'll post below.

We happened to be in Vienna for the first day of its film festival so we spent our last evening in Rathauspark where they were showing a live performance from The Rolling Stones on a big screen. There were bars, food stalls, and plenty of people all creating a really nice atmosphere and it was the perfect way to end our time in Vienna.

Anyway, I'm waffling on and we're now on our way to Bratislava so I'll post again after that!
Lots of love, Lisa and Matt πŸ’•
